Shades of October

The leaves fall, the wind blows, and farm country slowly changes from the summer cottons into its winter woolens....
Henry Beston
Northern Farm
Nothing Gold Can Stay
Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower,
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.
Robert Frost

The milkweed pods are breaking, and bits of silken down float off upon the autumn breeze across the meadows brown.

October has been fairly mild for the most part... but yesterday morning I found the first frost on the lawn down by the river.
Quite beautiful really.

    1. I don't know what the water temperature was yesterday morning ~ but the air was 32 and frosty!
It is a pretty time of year, and cooling down to keep the big furry dogs happy! Of course it's the snow they long for most! :))

  4. LOVE your header photo! I wish we had milkweed pods here. We used to make little doll pillows with it when I was a kid in Toronto. They are so pretty this time of year. We've been having an exceptional October here as well.

    1. The header photo is taken from the front lawn, looking towards town...
I'm surprised you have no milkweed? Seems like it would grow like a weed ANYplace. I always picture wee little mice rowing them like tiny boats, or curled up sleeping inside!

    1. No, he didn't fall ~he just dangled there a bit while he patched the hole where the chimney was. ..Did look pretty funny when I walked around to corner to see seemingly dismembered feet there on the roof top! :))))
