Treasure from beneath the floor boards.

I think one of the best things about an old house is finding little tidbits of the past, tucked into the most unlikely of places... Some times it's a bit of broken pottery... or the neck of a broken bottle ~ or it might just be a rusty spring.... or a button.  The corner of a grocery list.... A receipt for the purchase of one sheet of music (for the old 1800's pump organ that came with the house perhaps?)... an empty mackeral can...  To me, it's all just fascinating. It is a glimpse of who and what came before us.  It does of course leave me overflowing with heaps of questions!
Who broke the dish? Did they look all over for the button that fell of the shirt and rolled off into the crack in the floor?  Who spilled all the beads that keep turning up in the nooks and crannies??
And then once in a while you find a treasure...
Scott found a little tiny enameled pin (as in jewelery, not to sew with)... I think it's just charming!  Now I can just sit back and wonder who it belonged to... and how long it's been under the floor boards!!!
May I also say, I am so very lucky to be married to a guy who can not only fix an old house that is in need of SO much repair,  but also appreciate how much i love all this stuff... When he finds even the tiniest bead or button, he stops what he's doing and come to find me, and deliver my treasure! (you can see how this slows down progress too.....but I like to think that's just us slowing down and  "savoring  the good moments" in life...)
I am saving all the bits and pieces like a little Magpie... my stash of goodies is growing steadily ~ and I shall be the envy of alllllll the Magpies!!!
